Hallo, Grüß Gott and Guten Tag!

Charlotte - CharLingua

I'm Charlotte.

I help learners of German
from their first sentences in German to fluency, so that they can successfully live, work, and find friends in Germany.

My primary focus in teaching German:

Empowering German learners to speak confidently and sound natural, so they can easily hold conversations in German and navigate their everyday life in Germany.

I've been formally teaching German for more than 9 years and I’m a certified teacher of German as a foreign language.

I'm a native German speaker. I was born in Berlin and grew up in Stuttgart - the city of Mercedes and Porsche. Today my husband and I live with our four kids in Munich.

I've spent quite a lot of time abroad:

I went to university in Spain for one semester and later lived for 5 years as an expat partner with my family in Italy and Great Britain. My four children were born in three different countries (Germany, Italy, UK).

During this time, I experienced the ups and downs that living abroad brings along. I had to find out the hard way how speaking the local language makes a huge difference in the quality of your life.

When my husband and I moved to Italy with our little daughter, we didn’t speak any Italian.

I could communicate a bit because I had been living in Spain before and Italian and Spanish are quite similar. But it always felt like my brain had to do a marathon for any new information before it could decode the most simple sentences.

Giving birth to my second child abroad was a traumatic experience because I got a high fever and wasn’t able to communicate with the doctors who didn’t speak any foreign languages.

Even today, my Italian is not as fluent as I'd like it to be (I never really focused on my writing), but:

I was able to reach my goal:

to communicate confidently and

make friends for life.

Back in Germany, I discovered that I not only loved learning new languages but also teaching others my own language. I found I had a knack for simplifying the material so it really clicked with the student and made lessons so much more fun and engaging.

By now, I’ve helped more than 200.000 Students from all over the world in private lessons, group courses, on Instagram, and my popular "Uplevel Your German" podcast to learn or improve their German.

What is your goal?

Maybe you also “just” want to be able to communicate confidently.

Or maybe you want to do an exam in German. Or you have challenged yourself to read German literature. Or you simply want to find your way through the German systems (school, medical, …) and make local friends in Germany.

Whatever your goal is, I’m here to help you reach it: You, too, can be a fluent and confident German speaker!
