About me
Hello, Grüß Gott and Guten Tag!
I’m Charlotte von Strotha, founder of CharLingua and a certified teacher of German as a foreign language.
I help adults learn German online and become more confident speaking German – in everyday life, at work, and in conversations in Germany.

Since 2015, I have been teaching German as a foreign language – in 1:1 lessons, group courses, online courses, and through my content on social media.
Maybe you already know my short German explanations from Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube under @deutsch.charlingua. On this page, I’ll tell you who is behind CharLingua, why I teach German, and why I understand very well what it feels like to live in another country and still feel unsure about the language.

Who my offers are for
Maybe you are just starting to learn German. Maybe you have been living in Germany for a while and already understand a lot, but you still don’t feel confident when you speak. Or maybe you need German for work, for conversations with neighbors, for appointments, for your children’s school, or simply for everyday life.
If you don’t just want to learn German, but also want to use it more confidently in real life, you are in the right place at CharLingua.
What matters to me in German lessons
My most important goal is that you become more confident speaking German and feel more comfortable in real-life situations.
Of course, you need grammar. Of course, you need vocabulary. But you also need good examples, regular practice, and explanations that you really understand.
That is why my teaching is clear, practical, and personal.
I explain German in a way that helps you understand how the language works, instead of just memorizing rules. And I show you sentences that you can actually use in everyday life.
Step by step, you become more confident – without feeling that you have to be perfect.
Why I understand German learners so well
I am a native German speaker, born in Berlin and raised in Stuttgart – the city of Mercedes and Porsche. Today I live near Munich with my husband and our four children.
But I know very well what it feels like to live in a country where you do not yet feel confident speaking the language.
I studied in Spain for one semester and later lived as an expat partner with my family in Italy and the United Kingdom for five years. My four children were born in three different countries: Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Especially in Italy, I realized how big the difference is when you can speak the language of the country you live in.
At the beginning, it was hard for me to communicate. A doctor’s appointment, a conversation with neighbors, a form, or a phone call all took much more energy because I did not have the language I needed. I could understand a little Italian because I had learned Spanish before. But often it felt as if my brain had to run a marathon before it could process even simple information.
Later, many things became easier. My Italian was not perfect, but I could communicate, make friends, and really take part in life around me.
This experience still shapes the way I teach today.
I know that language is not just a school subject. Language means everyday life. Confidence. Independence. And connecting with other people.
My experience as a German teacher
I have been teaching German as a foreign language since 2015. During this time, I have worked with German learners from many countries – in 1:1 lessons, group courses, online courses, and through my content on social media.
Again and again, I have seen that many adults do not learn slowly because they are “not good at languages”. Often, what they are missing is exactly this: a clear structure, regular speaking practice, and someone who explains grammar in a way that makes sense.
That is why CharLingua exists.
I want you not only to learn German, but to be able to use it: while shopping, at work, at the doctor’s office, in conversations with friends, neighbors, or colleagues, and in all the small situations that are part of life in Germany.
